Calculator Use

Convert kilograms to pounds, and kilograms to pounds and ounces, that is, avoirdupois pounds. Also do conversions among just ounces or grams. Generate a conversion factor and use this factor to do quick conversions from kg to lb with approximate results.

Kilograms (kg) to Pounds (lb) Formula

Pounds is equal to kilograms multiplied by 2.205 because 1 kilogram = 2.205 pounds. (1 kg ≈ 2 lb 3.27 oz)

kg × 2.205 = lb

Alternatively, take the reciprocol of 2.205 or 1/2.205 ≈ 0.4536, and you can now say pounds is equal to kilograms divided by 0.4536.

kg ÷ 0.4536 = lb

Understand the conversion of kilograms (kg) to pounds (lb)

Since 1 kilogram equals 2.205 pounds we can write this as an equation and create a conversion ratio.

1 kg = 2.205 lb

Divide both sides by 1 kilogram to get 1 equals 2.205 pounds per kilogram

1 = 2.205 lb/kg

If we have 50 kg and multiply by 1 we do not change the mass of the object.

Likewise, if we multiply 50 kg by 2.205 lb/kg, the lb cancels and the multiplication gives us 110.25 lb. The mass has not changed, we only converted the units. Simply put,

Multiply kilograms by 2.205

Similarly, you can show that 1 = 0.4536 kg/lb and 50 kg ÷ 0.4536 kg/lb ≈ 110.23 lb, essentially the same amount. Simply put,

Divide kilograms by 0.4536

1 pound is equal to exactly 0.45359237 kilograms (453.59237 grams). The factor 2.205 is obtained by calculating 1/0.45359237 and rounding to three decimal places. We use this to say 1 kilogram is about 2.205 pounds. Since there are exactly 0.45359237 kg/lb, we can convert between these units with more accuracy as follows:

Pounds equals kilograms divided by 0.45359237 kilograms per pound or,

lb = kg ÷ 0.45359237 kg/lb

Example: 70 Kilograms to Pounds

You weigh 70 kg, but you need to fill out a form with your weight in pounds. Convert 70 kg to lb.

70 kg ÷ 0.45359237 kg/lb

= 70 kg ÷ 0.45359237 kg/lb ≈ 154.32 lb or 154 lb 5.18 oz.

and rounding to 154 lbs is close enough.

Kilogram
